Polk County New Home Construction Increasing
January 22nd, 2015 8:45 AM
New home construction in Polk County rose to a seven year high for 2014.  A total of 2,497 new home permits were issued by the county and city building departments.  This is an increase of 29 percent over 2013.  Ken Warren, president of Lakeland's Kensington Homes said that his firm completed 21 homes in 2014.  His company is a custom home builder and the local franchisee for Arthur Rutenburg.  Presently, he has 18 home under construction.

There were 174 permits issued in December 2014 which is an increase of 9 percent over 2013.  This is the highest number since 194 permits were issued in 2007.  New construction continue to increase as fewer distressed sales are on the market and median sales prices of resales increase, making new construction more competitive.  Also, low interest rates are a plus to buyers currently in the market.
